A safe space for the children of Agbogbloshie
An essential way to improve the quality of life in Agbogbloshie would be to provide access to quality education for local children. 65% of children under the age of 18 do not attend school and 49% of the slum dwellers have no education at all. There is a lack of public schools around the area; one can attend one of three private schools and pay high tuition fees, or find a school outside of the area and spend money on travel. The cost of uniforms and books are also obstacles for many of children. Many children who are not educated go on to become e-waste workers. Additionally, young, idle children out of school are more susceptible to falling to dangers such as stealing, smoking, and/or joining gangs. Providing education to these children would allow them to better avoid these dangers, as well as pull them out of a future dependent on e-waste work. Through education, the next generation of Agbogbloshie civilians would be more independent of e-waste, taking away the 'demand' for interational e-waste dumping. This would in effect make more apparent the judiciousness of creating and implementing stricter standards of international e-waste dumping.

After many months of planning, and thanks to the great generosity of our donors, we are overjoyed to announce that we have acquired a space for a children's centre, a safety haven for children who live in the Agbogbloshie area. We have yet to finish fixing and refurbishing the Centre, including mending the roof, before it is safe for our children.
